Breath of Life eBook Karin Bishop
Ms Bishop has quickly become one of my favorite Kindle self-published authors. Her talent for creating compelling characters and enticing storylines is quite well established to me after purchasing nearly a dozen titles.
Breath of Life is another fine example of her craft.
Other reviewers have stated that it starts out slow.
My impression was that it builds.
If you're unfamiliar with Ms Bishop's work, this is a fine place to start. Some have commented on the transgender theme. I figure that goes without saying, much like a lawyer theme in a Grisham novel, magic in a J.K. Rowling book or something creepy from Stephen King. It's just the universe where her stories take place, but within that universe there are so many stories to tell and so many fascinating people to meet, I simply take it as a given. Like brushing up on ones French before visiting Quebec.
I found Breath of Life an enjoyable light read - after being spoiled by some of Ms Bishop's meatier works. This is in no way a slight. A Bishop book is always a good read.
Breath of Life is a good choice for a first-time Bishop reader, and a safe choice for a longtime Bishop fan. What's not to like? It's brisk and fun, and would make a fine TV movie (if there were a transgender/wiccan friendly cable network out there)
Try it. You'll like it. (grin)

Breath of Life eBook Karin Bishop Reviews
A very good story that takes several tropes often found in magical transformation literature -- a forced transformation, possession by a spirit, even the idea of those who transform when they gain their powers being stronger than those who don't -- and turns them on their heads.
If there is any complaint, it is perhaps that the antagonists are disposed of maybe a tad easily, but seeing as the conflict with them is not central to the story, this is more than forgivable.
"Embrace your Goddess within." These are the final words of wisdom spoken to the lead character by her teacher and mentor, before the spiritual guide moves on to find her own destiny. "Breath of Life" by Karin Bishop is another very fine effort from an author whose books deal primarily with transgender characters and gender switching. In "Breath of Life" the author explores the world of magic, wizardry and gradual sex change as she did in her book "Fool Moon." This all happens in the context of a classic and powerful battle of good versus evil, resolving itself in a breathtaking conclusion, a kind of clash of the souls. The central theme, as is often the case with this author, is about choices, roads taken, or paths untraveled. Ironically, the protagonist does not really have a choice, as the inner female emerges to become the outer. One wonders if free choice is a complete illusion, or was our destiny completely pre-determined. How the transmogrification of this hero happens has all the beauty of time lapse photography showing a flower emerging from a seed, first becoming a twisting seedling before unfolding the total magnificence of its petals to the world. The author's books have in common their focus on the discovery of the leading character's true nature and sexual identity. "Breath of Life," a sensitive and very well-constructed effort is no exception. An excellent read.
To be able to watch the boy Ryan go through all the physical and psychological steps from Ryan, the boy, to Grace, the girl, and the laughter, tears, joy and fear that He/She experienced made this a Magical read for me. And without all the supporting cast having been so wonderfully written as well, this book wouldn't have been the joy of a read and multiple reread that it is for me, and I hope for anyone who really gives this the chance that all of Karin's books deserve.
How many times have you thought about magic and those who can perform it? Here you can find about things that might go beyond your normal imagination as a "spirit" takes over a boy and he changes into a "goddess" for good, not evil.
the premise for the story showed great potential to become a fantastic character study. The author, I believe, chose to keep the story "light and airy". Like a good kung fu movie I expected to witness training routines and strength drills, building to a climax of confrontation between good and evil. The story left me hanging. Overall I enjoyed the read as there are many interesting points to maintain interest. I would recommend this book.
What can I say. This is typical Karin. One great story after another. When you first start to read this book you think its a possesion transformation. But typical Karin Bishop style.Things are not as they appear. This story is a wonderful read. And I highly reccomend it.I thought it was as close to the greatness of fool moon(one of the best books I've ever read By Karin Bishop)as a book can be. It brought tears to my eyes a couple of times Thats how I judge a good book (If it can moove you emotionally). All of Karin Bishops and Tanya Allen Books Moove Me There are a couple of books from maxwell Avoi and A few from other authors that were really good but they are far and few between. I only write reviews on books that I really like.Otherwise it's not fair to the author for me to write a bad review. Peoples taste varry so read everything and make your own mind up. More often than not even the not great books are good enough to finish reading.
I picked up this book for free a while ago and had forgotten what it was about. It turned out to be a fantastic journey of self discovery, when I had expected something much simpler. The context of magic and the war between good and bad arcanists is more a framework to the more important aspect of discovering ones true self, both as a spell user and as a different gender.
