From the first few chapters of this book, my heart was in my throat. At the tender age of 16, Victoria experience so many life changing tragedies, it's no wonder she's spent the next 10 years being a frigid ice queen, harden lawyer, completely devoid of feelings and personal relationships. But when she completely loses it during a client meeting, her boss forces her hand - get some counseling to finally face up to the ghosts that haunt her, or lose her job she's worked her butt off for. As much as I hurt for Victoria, I absolutely loved her icy demeanor. She's tough as nails and does a great job of keeping everyone out. "and the Ice Queen with the dagger eyes and mouth that devours baby kittens is back." That is, until she meets group leader Chase. Oh Chase, you were a force to be reckoned with! I was kinda surprised he got involved with another "groupie" but hey, this is fiction. Of course, if you're going to be in group, you're there because of your own loss, and I literally did NOT see this one coming until it gobsmacked me in the face! Nicely done. Chase is relentless in his pursuit of Tori, as he likes to call her. He doesn't even attempt to hide his sexual innuendos. And dear lawd, I loved Chase's dirty mouth! Chase was a natural protector and when he wasn't getting Victoria between the sheets (wink), he was doing all he could to slowly bring her back to the living. I loved the aura of mystery surrounding the obsessive painting of the wall. Such an interesting detail that again smacked me in the face when revealed. The book was deep and intense, hot and steamy, and everything in between.Product details

From the very start I knew this was going to be an emotional ride! This was such a beautiful and sweet story. I was in tears when I started and was in tears when it ended.
Life sometimes isn't fair. Victoria and Chase both have to deal with such a pain after what life throws at them. Both have loss, and it is what bring them together. They heal each other after such heartache but both crave for that one day. yesterday! It was beautiful how these two characters come to each other, especially after being so broken. they both find and learn how to get life back.
This is very emotional, yet sweet story. so much feels but so worth every moment.
Victoria (Tori) has not had an easy life. Losing her husband and daughter at just 18, she hid her feelings and moved on with life (the best she could) becoming an “Ice Queen”. As a top divorce lawyer, her hard attitude helps her be the best.
Chase is a college professor who also has a help group for people who have lost loved ones. When Tori is ordered to attend the group, Chase is knocked off his feet. This beautiful woman is lost in herself. His goal is to bring back the woman he knows is hiding inside.
They do not have an easy journey. There are tears, yelling, laughing, tears.
But Chase is also battling his own demons.
What happens when their demons cross??
This was an amazing story!! It really touched my heart and showed me its okay to move on in life after a loved one passes away.
What a great collaboration between K. Webster and Elle Christensen this book was. I'm only sorry it took me so long to get to it.
A truly heartbreaking story of tremendous loss. Tori and Chase are both so broken from losses they have endured in their lives. Chase is making strides in moving on but Tori has created a completely new persona to shield herself from the past and any future pain of loss. She is considered an Ice Queen with no emotions.
When Tori is forced to endure grief counseling, she is just going through the motions in order to keep her job. Chase, however, has different plans for her. He wants to save her. Can these two become each other's salvation and finally propel them toward acceptance of their respective losses.
While I was reading, and "figuring" things out, I could feel the lump in my throat and found myself looking over at my fiancee and wondering what I would do, how would I react and then I told him the story and how it was making me feel. I felt the devastation of their losses, the betrayals and the pain. I also felt the beauty of what could be for them. Truly a remarkable, heartbreaking but beautiful story!
As someone who suffered the loss of a young husband this story gutted me. I could not figure out how to pull someone out of a loss like this. But these authors did it! Very well thought out story. The shocking twist really caught me by surprise and once again I thought, no way can they resolve this. And they did. I did enjoy the book so much.
BUT... Chase was way too aggressive and quick and IMO obnoxious. And Victoria was too much of a pushover for someone who had built so many walls around herself. She let him bully her into getting together and she just followed like a sad puppy. Sorry, not buying it. He irritated me quite a bit, but he did a great job of redeeming himself by the ways he took care of her.
I had many mixed emotions about how their relationship progressed. He always demanded and she always gave in. That bothered me. Too much "instalove " -- for me that means it was about attraction & looks rather than the quality of the person. Or their connection.
This could have been a 5* but a few other things bothered me too. Some of the grammar -- nothing worse than writers who can't get "your, you're" right! And "elude" vs "allude". Pet peeve!!
